Ingredients

  • 3 lbs Gala apples (peeled, cored and cut into 1-inch pieces)
  • 1 C apple juice (100% unsweetened juice)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp all spice
  • 1 TBSP unsalted butter
  • 1 TBSP packed brown sugar
  • 1 TBSP maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1 TBSP heavy cream

Tools

  • Slow cooker

Instructions 

  • Add apples and apple juice to the slow cooker and cook on low for 4 hours.
  • Puree the cooked apples in a food processor until smooth.
  • In a heavy skillet, melt butter over medium heat, then stir in brown sugar, maple syrup, spices, and salt.
  • Add the pureed apples to the skillet and cook, stirring, until thickened, about 10 minutes.
  • Stir in heavy cream and cook for another 2 minutes. Serve warm or store in jars.

Notes

This apple butter is perfect for spreading on toast or adding to your favorite desserts. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
