A rich and indulgent French toast recipe topped with a sweet pecan praline, perfect for a special breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Bread

  • 1 loaf French bread (13-16 oz loaf)
  • 8 large eggs eggs
  • 2 cups half-and-half or heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 ground nutmeg ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt

Toppings

  • 0.5 pound butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions 

  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.
  • Slice bread into 20 1-inch pieces, arrange in dish, and set aside.
  • Whisk eggs, cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until blended.
  • Pour mixture over bread, ensuring all slices are soaked, then chill overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix butter, brown sugar, pecans, corn syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg for topping. Spread over bread.
  • Bake for 40 minutes until golden. Serve with maple syrup.

Notes

For best results, prepare the night before and bake fresh in the morning.
