Ingredients

Flour

  • 2.5 cups Flour

Cocoa powder

  • 1.5 cups Cocoa powder

Baking powder

  • 2 tsp Baking powder

Baking soda

  • 1 tsp Baking soda

Granulated sugar

  • 2 cups Granulated sugar

Eggs

  • 3 Eggs

Vegetable oil

  • 0.75 cup Vegetable oil

Orange juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 1 cup Orange juice (freshly squeezed)

Hot coffee

  • 1 cup Hot coffee

Kosher salt

  • 0.5 tsp Kosher salt

Orange zest

  • 1 tsp Orange zest

Vanilla extract

  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract

Butter

  • 340 g Butter

Powdered sugar

  • 2 cups Powdered sugar

Cocoa powder

  • 0.33 cup Cocoa powder

Vanilla extract

  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract

Semisweet chocolate (melted and cooled)

  • 100 g Semisweet chocolate (melted and cooled)

Orange zest

  • 1 tsp Orange zest

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the cake pan.
  • Mix dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt.
  • Combine wet ingredients: sugar, eggs, oil, orange juice, coffee, orange zest, vanilla, and melted butter.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, then fold in melted chocolate.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 40 minutes. Cool before frosting.

Notes

For extra orange flavor, add more zest or a splash of orange liqueur.
