1/2cupbuttermilk(cheater version okay)

1/2cupcold butter (chopped into chunks)
2tablespoonssugar (granulated or raw sugar or both)
Vanilla ice cream (for serving, not optional)
Instructions
Prepare apple filling: zest lemon, squeeze juice, peel and slice apples thinly, then cook with sugars and spices for 20 minutes until tender.
Stir in vanilla, transfer apples to a 9x13 dish, and let cool briefly.
Make cobbler topping: whisk dry ingredients, add buttermilk and egg, cut in butter, sprinkle sugar on top, then bake at 375°F for 45-55 minutes until golden and bubbling.
Optional: broil for 1-3 minutes for extra crispness, then cool for 15 minutes before serving with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
For best results, use a mix of apple varieties and serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
