A hearty and creamy one-pan dish combining seasoned ground beef, rice, and cheese for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 lb ground beef 85/15 or 90/10
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups beef broth or stock
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked or sweet paprika
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or a cheddar blend
  • as needed olive oil
  • optional chopped parsley or sliced green onions (for garnish)

Instructions 

  • Brown the beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, then drain excess grease.
  • Add diced onion and cook until softened, then stir in garlic for 30 seconds.
  • Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire, paprika, salt, and pepper; then add rice and coat for 30-60 seconds.
  • Pour in beef broth, scrape browned bits, bring to a simmer, cover, and cook until rice is tender, stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce heat to low, stir in heavy cream, then add cheese and stir until melted and creamy. Rest briefly before garnishing and serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle with fresh herbs before serving.
