Ingredients

Dough and Batter

  • 1.25 cups light brown sugar
  • 1.5 cups chopped pecans
  • 2-3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups scooped flour (OR 3 cups spooned and leveled (≈ 360–375 g))
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1.25 cups buttermilk

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch dish and prepare ingredients.
  • Mix brown sugar, pecans, and cinnamon for filling.
  • Cream butter and sugar, then beat in eggs and vanilla.
  • Whisk dry ingredients, then alternate adding flour and buttermilk into the creamed mixture, mixing just until combined.
  • Layer half of batter in pan, sprinkle with half filling, then repeat. Drizzle melted butter on top.
  • Bake for 35-45 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean. Cool before serving.

Notes

For a crisp topping, sprinkle extra pecans on top before baking.
