Ingredients

Dry ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt

Wet ingredients

  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 0.25 cup Neutral oil (vegetable or canola)
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 3 large Eggs (room temperature)
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup Sour cream (full-fat, room temperature)
  • 0.5 cup Milk (whole or 2%, room temp)

Chocolate chips

  • 1.25 cups Mini chocolate chips (plus more for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon All-purpose flour (for tossing chocolate chips)
  • as needed Powdered sugar or vanilla frosting (for serving)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  • Mix dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt.
  • Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, vanilla, sour cream, and milk. Combine with dry ingredients.
  • Toss mini chocolate chips with flour; fold into batter.
  • Pour batter into pan; top with additional chocolate chips. Bake for 35 minutes.

Notes

Ensure not to overmix the batter for a tender crumb.
