Ingredients

Crust and Base

  • 1 piece pre-made tart shell (9-inch) (or homemade shortcrust pastry)
  • 3 large apples (a mix of tart and sweet varieties like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup almond meal (optional)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Place tart shell in pan, prick base, and sprinkle almond meal if using.
  • Peel, core, and slice apples; toss with lemon juice.
  • Arrange apples on the shell, sprinkle with sugar mixture, and drizzle with melted butter.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes until apples are tender and crust is golden. Cool slightly, then pour caramel sauce over.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
