Instructions
Preheat oven to 350F (175C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round pans.
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar, then add eggs and vanilla.
Alternate adding dry ingredients and applesauce to wet mixture. Fold in diced apples.
Divide batter into pans and bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool completely.
Make caramel sauce by melting sugar, adding butter, cream, and salt. Cool slightly.
Assemble cake: layer with caramel and toffee bits, then serve.
