This classic apple crisp pie combines tender, spiced apples with a crunchy topping, perfect for a comforting dessert.

Ingredients

Pie Crust

  • 1 piece 9 inch unbaked pie crust, homemade or store bought

Filling

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (about 6 to 7 medium apples)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Topping

  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions 

  • Slice apples evenly and toss with lemon juice. Mix sugars, flour, cornstarch, spices, salt, and vanilla; let sit 10 mins.
  • Fit pie crust into dish and chill for 15 mins. Fill with apple mixture, pouring juices over top.
  • Combine topping ingredients with cold butter until crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over apples.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 55-65 mins until golden and bubbling. Cool for 2 hours before slicing.

Notes

Chilling the crust helps it hold shape during baking.
